Hola Oppo!
I’m visiting Motor City for a concert this weekend. The concert is in Clark Park area of Mexicantown/Southwest Detroit. Can you please tell me if:
- This area would be “late night walk” friendly? There is AirBnB host in that are that’s cheap and I figured I’d save some $ by staying close by and walking vs driving/getting a Lyft from a host in another area.
- There’s a “must” see in Detroit area that I absolutely CANNOT pass up on a Saturday morning?
Thanks!

Lafayette Coney Island, Ford Piquette Ave Plant (cheap to get in, lots of history, really good) it’s mostly pre-model T stuff. I loved the Ford Plant when I was down in January. I thought I knew old Ford stuff, I got schooled there on Ford history.

I live near by and haven’t had any problems. Vernor is very walkable (for Detroit) with lots of good bars/restaurants. El Club, Mutiny Bar, Taqueria El Ray, Flowers of Vietnam, Xochimilco, etc.
Walking to Vernor might be sketchy depending on where you’re at and/or what you’re used to.
I had a friend AirBnB in the area and on the second night the owner, who lived in the first floor of the duplex, had a full on domestic dispute for half hour. It was tense.

If you to the ford plant do a 10am tour, than after the tour just walk around it. I killed 5 hours in it.

Mexicantown is “night walk friendly” if you have some friends around and aren’t actively flashing fancy phones and jewelry and whatnot. And even then, you’d have to be looking for trouble. You’re going on the weekends when there’s some tourism in town - you’re likely to be part of a crowd anyways. But then again I lived in Flint for 5 years so.....I tend to be a lot less skittish in downtown environments. Your mileage may vary.
As for stuff to do? Definitely hit up the mexicantown bakery and get some cookies before you leave. And the restaurants there are AMAZING (Xochimilo’s is my family’s fav). Atwater brewing is a must-see if you like beer. Oh and the public area of the GM ren cen has a small museum/showcase in it so that’s fun. The motor city casino is fun to walk through if just for the experience and the corktown district has lots of good bars and restaurants too.

This is the location of the the AirBnB and the venue is on the Vernor HWY, about a block North East of the Clark x Vernor.
I’m from a 3rd world country, so not too easily scared, lol

No problem. Also it’s not just ford stuff, it’s the whole automotive industry/history. There are also a few ford concepts in there too.

.

Eh. I’d do it. Not too many bars on your path but there’s some gas stations and party stores. That’s my general rule when walking alone at night - stay by bars, restaurants, gas stations, and you pretty much avoid all trouble.

Oh yea, thats a good location and not the same Airbnb.
Also you can rent bikes 24/7 form a stand near by. You’ll look like a tourist but its cheap and newer option for Detroit.

Comparing Lafayette to Skyline is an insult.

I’ve never been to either, so it’s all the same to me.
